Mekorot Water Main Relocation – Raanana
Urban water infrastructure upgrade as part of residential neighborhood development
Location: Raanana
Project Type: Water Supply Systems
Client: Mekorot
Project Status: Completed
Role of Balasha‑Jalon Infrastructure Systems Ltd.: Full design services (preliminary and detailed design) + construction supervision
🟦 Project Overview
As part of the development of new residential neighborhoods in the south‑eastern area of Raanana, extensive infrastructure works were required, including electricity, drainage, and water systems.
A key component of the project was the relocation of a primary Mekorot water main along a dense and active urban corridor. The project included the design and construction of a new pipeline alignment, connection to existing systems, and integration with additional infrastructure, while ensuring uninterrupted water supply throughout all construction stages and safe decommissioning of the existing pipeline.
🟦 Role of the Company in the Project
Balasha‑Jalon Infrastructure Systems Ltd. led the project design in all phases, including detailed engineering of the new alignment, full coordination of infrastructure systems, and development of engineering solutions under complex site conditions. In addition, Balasha‑Jalon Infrastructure Systems Ltd. provided construction supervision throughout all execution stages.
🟦 Engineering Challenges
• Execution within a dense urban corridor and limited working space
• Maintaining continuous water supply during construction
• Working in proximity to existing infrastructure and electrical systems
• Safe decommissioning of an existing asbestos pipeline in compliance with stringent safety regulations
• Coordination among multiple infrastructure stakeholders
🟦 Balasha‑Jalon’s Solution
• Detailed execution planning enabling work alongside an active system
• Design and implementation of a temporary above‑ground bypass system
• Use of temporary shoring systems to address soil conditions and limited space
• Design and installation of cathodic protection systems
• Full multidisciplinary coordination across all project interfaces
🟦 Key Technical Data
• New steel water pipeline, 30‑inch diameter
• Pipeline relocation length: approximately 520 meters
• Integration of cathodic protection system coordinated with adjacent infrastructure
