AY Line Project – Main Sewage Transmission System

The AY Line Project is IGUDAN’s primary sewage project.

IGUDAN (Dan Region Union of Towns for Sewage) is in charge of Greater Tel Aviv Sewage Transmission lines to the sewage treatment plant and in charge of the "Shafdan" - Sewage Treatment Plant, serving a current population of 2.5 million people.

Until the introduction of the “AY Line Project”, the Greater Tel Aviv sewage transmission system consisted of:

• Two longitudinal sewage pipelines ("Q" and "MZ" lines), from north to south.
• A lateral line ("A" pipeline) connecting the "Q" & "MZ" pipelines in the north.

The vision of the AY Line Project was: Allow redundancy between the main sewage transmission line of Greater Tel Aviv.

This could be achieved by creating two huge metropolitan flow loops interacting with one another, allowing the diversion of flow from one flow loop to the other, by means of gravitational pressure flow or change of pumps outlet. This versatile sewage flow management is required in cases of breakdown or maintenance.

The execution of this project included building a new longitudinal transmission line ("AY" line)

from “A” line in the north to a new Sewage Pumping Station - Ayalon - located 7 km to

the south and two southern lateral lines (AYQ, AYM), connecting Ayalon station to existing "Q" and "MZ" lines.

The major components of the AY Line Project are:

• AY line – Gravitational Sewage Transmission Line.
• Ayalon Sewage Pumping Station
• AYM Line – Main Sewage Raising Main Line
• AYQ Line – Main Sewage Raising Main Line

Balasha-Jalon came with the original plan to create a unique redundant sewer system to  Dan Region and provided general and detailed designs, municipal coordination and general supervision throughout the project.
